Bertram Lewis Williams, age 94, passed away, at his home, in Lytle, on April 15, 2023, surrounded by family .

Bertram Lewis Williams was born January 27, 1929 in Montgomery, Alabama, to Victor Williams and Ouina Bray Williams. Bert was very close with his siblings, Victor B. Williams (Nardie) and Dorothy Williams Mahler.

Bert resided in Montgomery, Alabama until 2003. The family has fond memories of visiting Bert on vacation in Alabama and always enjoyed visits from him to Texas for Christmas, or any other major events in our lives. Even when begged by nieces and nephews, he could never stay an extra day, I think because Bert knew he would never get to leave if he gave in.

While in Alabama, Bert attended and graduated from the University of Alabama, something he was very proud of "Roll Tide". He printed out the Alabama football schedule and watched and supported them every year.

Bert went to work for the Alabama Highway Department as an Engineer and designed bridges all over the state. Bert retired at the age of 55 with 36 years of service. At the end of his work career and the beginning of retirement, Bert fell in love with the game of golf. This was a game he once described "as a stupid game where you just chase a white ball around". He changed his mind and played thousands of rounds over his lifetime. He was a lifetime member at Magnolia Country Club in Alabama, and he became a member at the Devine Golf Course, when he moved to Lytle and played there regularly until he was 92 years old.

In 2003 Bert moved to Lytle, Texas to be closer to family. Bert was Uncle Bert to his family and was surrounded by nieces and nephews, great nieces, nephews and eventually, great-great nieces and nephews.

Bert was very pragmatic and a creature of habit. He knew what he liked, and he stuck with it. He wore blue, drove blue Buicks and knew he loved the roast beef at Cracker Barrel, so he didn't need to try anything else.  Bert will be missed by all who know him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Victor Williams & Ouina Bray Williams; sister, Dorothy Mahler; brother, Victor B. Williams; brother-in-law, James Mahler; nephew, Rick Mahler; great nephew, Christopher Mahler and great-great niece, Kennedy Mahler.

He is survived by his niece, Vicki Luff and husband, Larry Luff and family, Mick Mahler and family, Steve Mahler and family, and the family of Rick Mahler.
