Charles "Charlie" Hubert Tschirhart

Charles "Charlie" Hubert Tschirhart, 76, of Big Foot, Texas, passed away on August 26,

Charlie was born on November 3, 1949, in Devine, Texas, to Lawrence Jacob Tschirhart and Doris Marie Hutzler Tschirhart. He grew up on small farms east of Pearsall until his family settled on the Tschirhart and Sons Farm, where the land became a part of who he was. He graduated from Pearsall High School and later John Connally Technical College in Waco, where he trained to become a mechanic.

On December 22, 1973, Charlie married Jo Ann Lee. They shared 52 years of marriage, building a life centered around their family, the farm, and the land they called home. He lived most of his life close to the land where he grew up. His life was rooted in hard work, family, and the simple, familiar things that made a place home. His family will remember the sound of his farm truck, the Westerns playing on the television, Star Trek on Saturday nights, his voice singing throughout the house, and his hands.

Charlie's hands told the story of his life. They were the rough hands of a farmer and mechanic, often marked by a cut, scrape, or bruise from whatever project he was working on. Covered in grease and cleaned with Lava soap. They were the skilled hands of a hobbyist, repairing old wooden telephones and clocks. They were the gentle hands of a beekeeper collecting honey and caring for his hives. He was always doing something with those hands. Repairing, building, working, or figuring out how to make something work again.

For his children, some of their fondest memories were made on the farm. When Charlie started up his big farm truck, they would race outside, climb into the bed of his pickup, and ride along while he worked. They would check fences, feed cows, watch him repair the equipment that ran the farm, or ride into town to get a part. They were ordinary days on the farm, but they became extraordinary memories that his children still carry with them.

Most of all, they will remember Charlie for the life he gave them, the land to grow up on, the miles traveled together, the work done side by side, and the memories that will remain long after his passing.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Tschirhart; his children, Patricia Tschirhart, Brian (Jenny) Tschirhart, and Janie (Michael) Stewart; and his grandchildren, Sean Stewart, Alyssa (Espen) Zahl, Ethan Stewart, Emmalyn Tschirhart and Stella Tschirhart. He is also survived by his siblings; Joyce (George) Compton, Gregory (Doris) Tschirhart and Karen (Gary) Eagle; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

After a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, Charlie is now at peace in the arms of his savior, Christ Jesus. He is walking in the red fields, reunited with those who preceded him: His parents, Lawrence and Doris Tschirhart; his brother, Ronald "Ronnie" Tschirhart; and his best friend, Jerry Mann.

Charlie is deeply loved and will be greatly missed. His family and friends will carry his memory forward, one precious moment at a time.

Charlie's family would like to thank his Hospice team of Denessa, Frances and Reanna; and his caregivers Sandy and Marisela. They were all integral to his care and comfort during his last months.
