Don L. Hoover

February 2, 1961 — July 12, 2022

Don L. Hoover of Castroville, TX went home to the Lord on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at the age of 61. He was born on February 2, 1961 in Hondo, TX to Herbert Norman Hoover and Julia Leal Hoover.

Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son. He dedicated his life caring for his late wife, Betty Lou, while serving and protecting his community as a police officer for over thirty years. His passion to help others and love as a peace officer began in Danbury, Tx with the Danbury Police Department in 1991. In 1994 he later transitioned to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office as a patrol deputy. After 10 years, Don and Betty decided it was time to move back home to be closer with family. Don joined the Medina County Sheriff's Office where he held positions as
patrol deputy and patrol sergeant. Later in 2013 he joined the Eagle Lake Police Department in which he moved up the ranks from patrolman, patrol sergeant, lieutenant, and interim Chief. After the passing of his beloved wife, Betty, in 2021 he moved back to Medina County. At the end of his career, he served as a corrections officer with the Medina County Sheriff's office. Throughout his time as an officer, he made a lasting impact on countless people and so
many lifelong friends. He enjoyed a good laugh, cooking and BBQing with family and friends, while listening to his favorite music and anything that had to do with cooking. Don was always willing to help anyone in need without a second thought. His selfless acts will never be forgotten, and his good-natured soul will forever be missed by those he met during his life.

He is preceded in death by his wife and soul mate Betty Lou Hoover who passed away on September 1, 2020, parents Herbert Hoover and Julia Garza, step-father Reynaldo Garza, niece Delsa Osti, nephew Noah Hoover, and great-grandsons Ezra and Adonis Hoover.
