With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Maria Esperanza Ochoa, who departed this life peacefully on May 31, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on June 19, 1934, in the small town of Dilley, Texas, Esperanza lived a life filled with love, resilience, and remarkable warmth. As a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, she embodied the very essence of family and community.
Esperanza was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her. Her culinary talents were celebrated, particularly her cherished tradition of preparing tamales each Christmas, a labor of love that brought family together in joyous gatherings. Esperanza found immense joy in watching her family enjoy themselves, playing games and sharing laughter that echoed through the walls of her home. Simple pleasures like shopping became cherished moments, where her spirit shone brightest among loved ones.
A woman of deep faith, Esperanza's connection to her heritage and family values was unwavering. Her indomitable spirit influenced the lives of many, and her legacy will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her.
Esperanza is survived by her beloved children Letty Neves (Richard) and Orlando Ochoa (Melissa); Twenty-two grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews who continues the family tradition of love, resilience, and joyful gatherings.
Esperanza was preceded in death by her first husband, Manuel Hernandez Sr. father of six of her children; her loving husband of twenty eight years Ramon Ochoa Sr.; parents Genaro and Catalina Flores; sons Manuel Hernandez, Jr., Ramiro Hernandez, and Delmiro Hernandez; daughter Hermidia Wardell; brothers Gilberto Flores, Onesimo Flores, Eligio Flores, Margarito Flores; sisters Audencia Martinez, Estella Martinez; grandson Anthony "Tony" Hernandez.
In celebration of Esperanza's life, a public viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a Rosary recited at 7:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Services of Pearsall. A Mass in her honor will take place at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dilley on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM, with interment to follow in Latin American Cemetery, Dilley, Texas. Serving as pallbearers are J.J. Neves, Danon Neves, Matt Ochoa, Noah Ochoa, Romy Hernandez and Jeremy Hernandez. Honorary are Shawn Rodriguez and Jay McClevey.
As we gather to honor and celebrate the beautiful life of Esperanza, we invite all who knew her to join us in remembering the love she shared, the traditions she nurtured, and the memories that will forever grace our hearts. May her spirit guide us as we embrace her legacy of kindness, generosity, and familial love.
