Gloria Garza Vasquez was born on October 24, 1961 in McAllen, Texas. She attended public schools in Angleton, Alamo and Natalia and graduated third in her class from Natalia High School in 1980.

Gloria Garza Vasquez became a child of God through a profession of faith at a Hispanic Baptist Mission and was later baptized in 1978 by the late Rev. Ruben Madrigal.

Gloria married Raul Vasquez Jr. on May 23, 1992, at First Baptist Church in Natalia. They lived in Natalia where Raul owned his own business. Gloria always traveled to work in San Antonio. Gloria was blessed with the birth of her daughter Reyna Isabella on August 12,1994. Gloria enjoyed a simple life even through her professional career many times put her in the limelight. Because she believed in helping others and championed justice, she became a public servant as Mayor of the City of Natalia in 1993. She served two-two-year terms. She enjoyed public speaking and took pride in being a good communicator. She was a thoughtful person who honored honestly, caring, respect and responsibility the lingering YMCA philosophy. Although not a publicly religious person, Gloria knew she was blessed in every aspect of her life and had a close personal relationship with God. Gloria considered herself a people person and enjoyed her family and friends. She was always willing to lend an ear and a helping hand. Her relaxing moments came from reading or her early morning walks and talks with God. The light of her life was her daughter Reyna.
