Ina McCain Gustafson

December 2, 1937 — March 15, 2023

On March 15, 2023, Ina McCain Gustafson passed away after a short illness at her home in Horseshoe Bay, Texas with her children by her side. She was 85 years old. Ina June McCain was born at home on the family farm in Moore, Texas on December 2, 1937 to Imon and Agnes McCain and was the youngest of six children.

In her youth, having a passion for music and sports, she performed in many talent shows and played basketball and volleyball. After going to school in Sasakwa, Oklahoma for numerous years, Ina came back to Texas and graduated high school in San Antonio at Thomas Jefferson.

Ina raised six children along with her husband, Marvin Gustafson, while living in Devine, Uvalde, and eventually in San Antonio. Due to her love of the field of education and her desire to improve the lives of teachers and students, Ina worked as a secretary for various schools and school districts to include San Antonio's Northside ISD, Region 20, San Antonio College, and Our Lady of the Lake University.

Lovingly known as "Muna" to her grandchildren, she spent the majority of time in her later years doing what she loved most - spending time with and being completely devoted to her family, serving as each and every one's biggest cheerleader. She loved listening to music, watching old movies with her grandchildren, and cooking the family's favorite dishes. She also enjoyed traveling and had an affection for Ruidoso, New Mexico and the mountains of Colorado.

Ina is predeceased by her parents, Imon and Agnes McCain, her husband of 26 years, Marvin Gustafson, her brothers, Doyle McCain and Jack McCain, and by her companion, Dr. Attilio Zaccaria.

Ina is survived by her six children, Matthew Gustafson, Carl Gustafson, Jr. (Charlotte), Melissa Morgan (Jim), Marla Gustafson, Ingrid Cazalas (Steve), Megan Gustafson, and those whom she was most proud of, her beautiful 10 grandchildren and her 5 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Janice Gale, Dr. Johnny McCain (Dorothy), Janie Buckles (Guy) and many nieces and nephews.

Ina will be laid to rest back in her hometown at the Moore Memorial Cemetery in a private ceremony on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at 1:00pm. Ina McCain Gustafson, who touched and impacted so many lives with her kindness and selflessness, will be forever missed by her friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marble Falls Baylor Scott & White Central Texas Foundation (ctxfoundation.bswhealth.com).
