Obituary for Isabel Thompson Schorp - 1928-2026
Isabel Thompson Schorp, aged 97 years, passed away on May 5, 2026, at The Villages at Incarnate Word, a retirement community, San Antonio, Texas.
Isabel was born in Charlotte, Texas, to Dennis Henry Thompson and Ollie Frances Jones Thompson on May 31, 1928. She is preceded in death by her husband Harding John "Cotton" Schorp, her parents Dennis and Ollie Thompson, her sisters Angelene Thompson, Verna Thompson Wilson, Irene Thompson Wallis, and Ima Jane "Janie" Thompson Helms, brothers Henry Thompson and Chris Thompson, and her grandson Christopher Drake Martin, M.D. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Sue "Susie" Schorp Martin, granddaughter-in-law Amy Scott Martin, great grandsons Robert Harding Schorp Martin and Christopher Maverick "Topher" Martin, sister Ola Thompson Helms, and many nieces and nephews.
Isabel was graduated from Charlotte High School, after which she moved to Pearsall where she met and married Cotton Schorp. To this union was born a daughter, Susie.
Isabel was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker; however, she stayed very busy with many activities she enjoyed. She modeled for the Ben Shaw Modeling Agency, for which she modeled at Frost Brothers of San Antonio, She was an avid artist, studying under Warren Hunter, and produced many beautiful oil paintings. She also studied china painting under Ms. Ada Coker in Pearsall.
She loved to make new recipes, mostly desserts, and kept a stack of recipe books by her bedside which she read like novels. She designed much of the furniture in her home, from bookshelves, a dining room table, to bedroom headboards and more. She was also the assistant leader for the Pearsall Campfire Girls, for which she organized many trips and camp-outs for the group. Isabel was also an accomplished cook, taking many cooking classes through the years. Her sister-in-law Florence would often say that Isabel was the best cook in the family, to which her sisters might take exception. She also designed many of her own clothes that Kitty Davis and Mabel Newsome would sew for her. She was a member of the 42-Club and she would often host the activities of the group in her home. Isabel was a wonderful conversationalist with a great sense of humor, often making everyone laugh, and she will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
