August 11, 1949 — February 11, 2024

Pearsall

James "Butch" R. Cook of Pearsall, Texas, passed away on February 11, 2024 at the age 74.

In memory of Butch Cook, we are reminded of the indelible mark he left on each of our lives. Butch was a force of nature, whose charisma and playful spirit drew people to him.

As a father, husband, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Butch's love knew no bounds. Butch's connection to the land was profound. As a local rancher and an expert at dirt work, he was a steward of the land.

Those who knew Butch understood that life with him was an adventure. With his energetic and adventurous spirit, he led us into escapades that were both exhilarating and unforgettable. Though his mouth may have occasionally landed him in hot water, his quick wit and infectious laughter always saw us through the toughest of times.

Butch was a man of contradictions—tough, yet gentle; contemplative, yet larger than life. Even as his body faltered, his spirit remained unbroken.

As we bid farewell to Butch, we take solace in the knowledge that he is at peace. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will live on in the stories we tell and the memories we hold dear.

Butch Cook will be greatly missed, may he rest in eternal peace.

He is preceded in death by parents; James Wiley and Kathryn Cook, and his sisters; Janet Fest, and Nancy McCulloch.

James is survived by his wife; Beth, daughter; Julie (Warren) Stevens, stepchildren; Lisa (Lance) Unger, Matthew (Katy) Mangold, grandchildren; Sorrel (Zebulon) Yandell, Sage Stevens, and Layton and Landry Unger. He is also survived by his sister Donna (Clem) Wofford, and numerous nieces and nephews.
