Joan Patricia Leyendecker Waldrum

Joan Patricia Leyendecker Waldrum, 92, of Pearsall died on May 14, 2021. She was born on April 5, 1929 in Laredo to Lawrence and Alice Jeffers Leyendecker.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Louise, Lorraine, Lucy, brothers Louis, Robert, Richard and grandson “Buster”.

Joan is survived by her husband of 73 years John Carter “Puny” Waldrum, sister Katherine, children Sandra, John Robert (Mafe) and David, grandchildren John Craig (Tanya) Waldrum, Vicki Miller (Les), Daisy Santos (Traci), Christopher John Waldrum (Cynthia) Amanda Gann and John Daniel Waldrum, great-grandchildren Kathleen (Isaac), Jacque, Selena (Sara), John, Brandon, Quade Miller, Jesse, Jacob, James, Jeremiah and Jobi Hightower-Santos, Ethan, Madyson, C.J. Waldrum, Jessi, Caesar Sosa, Troy Kaiden, Brody Gann and great-great grandchildren Kara and Khloe Sotomayor, Katherine Aguirre and Santiago Waldrum. She is also survived by her canine companion “Willie”.

Joan graduated from Martin High School in Laredo and attended Sul Ross College until she married in 1947. The Waldrums lived in El Dorado, Alpine, Bandera, Port Isabel and eventually, Pearsall. She was employed as a bank teller, school and county auditor secretary. She was later chosen as Frio County Auditor and worked until her retirement.

She was active with the First Baptist Church, including the Vacation Bible School program and was a member of the kitchen crew. Her hobbies included cooking, gardening, reading and watching HGTV.

As her choice, she was cremated and there will be a family-only gravesite service organized by Hurley Funeral Home.
