Our beloved Josefina Gonzales Zapata born on March 19, 1926, was called to heaven on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the age of 97. She is proceeded in death by her parents Marcelino & Dolores Gonzales of Natalia, Texas, her late husband of 68 years Santos Zapata Sr, sons Hilario Zapata, Concepcion Zapata, Florencio Zapata, and daughter Maria Zapata Balencia of Natalia Texas.

She is survived by her children Nieves Zapata Sr, Braulio Zapata Sr, Gilbert Zapata, Anselma Martinez, Janie Alvarado, Anita Pimentel, Santos Zapata Jr., Emilio Zapata & Beatrice Zapata in addition to 42 grandchildren, 72 Great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren.

She lived her life as an active Catholic member of St. John Bosco church as a Guadalupana, Eucharistic minister, and choir. She also served the community through numerous functions. She was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister, led weekly ultreyas, and supported numerous functions. She also served as parishioner and lector at Immaculate Concepcion Coal Mine church in Lytle, Texas. She was an active member for many years with the Cursillo Movement /Sacred Heart of Mary Church in San Antonio Texas. She and her husband formed a Prison Ministry visiting men's and women's prisons evangelizing the word of God. In addition to supporting us through prayer during our traditional Good Friday walk and annual Thanksgiving function providing food, clothing, and prayer to families in the community.
She religiously prayed her rosary daily and read her bible until she couldn't due to her illness. And despite of her illness she still showed us to keep the faith by attempting to make the sign of the cross even during her frail moments.  Her wish was to have her last sacrament at St. Joseph Catholic Church where she received her 7 holy sacraments including her matrimony.
We will miss her beyond words and pray until we meet again. Rest in God's loving arms.
