Julian Salazar Hernandez, 96, a faithful servant of our lord and devoted family man, entered eternal rest on February 17, 2026. He is Proceeded in death by his parents, Jose and Paula Hernandez, his wife Genoveva Hernandez, his children Eloy Hernandez, Eliseo Hernandez, Raul Hernandez, Elodia Cordova and his grandchildren Eloy Jr., Marta, and Raul Jr. He is survived by children Elsa Hernandez, Julian Hernandez, and Homer Hernandez, along with 22 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
Julian Hernandez, known as Papa to all his family, was a hard working and religious family man. Papa began working early in life as a ranch hand at the Fair Oaks Ranch in Devine. His favorite job was working cattle at the George Thompson ranch in Devine. He always expressed that he was truly grateful for George and Rowena Thompson's kindness. He left ranch work and moved his family into better opportunities in Devine. He then worked in road construction several years and was very proud to have worked on the road bridges in the Devine area along the I-35 corridor. After several years working for Scurlock Oil, he eventually retired as a commercial truck driver hauling oil during the last oil boom in the Pearsall area.
Papa is very much loved and will be truly missed by his family. A public visitation will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Pearsall, Texas on Wednesday February 25, 2026 from 5 P.M. to 9 P.M. with a rosary reciting at 7 P.M. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday February 26, 2026 at 10 A.M. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Pearsall, Texas. A burial will follow at Catholic East Cemetery located next to Pearsall Cemetery.
