Listen to Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of our beloved Kay Curbow "Kay Kay", who left this world on September 3, 2026, at the age of 67. A cherished mother and grandmother, and sister, Kay was born on July 4, 1959, and filled the lives of those around her with joy, creativity, and warmth.

Kay, a resident of Somerset, Texas, was a true embodiment of talent and passion. She was an ardent devotee of the arts, a dancer who graced the stage with her vibrant spirit, and an exceptional artist whose creativity knew no bounds. Her crafty hands could transform the ordinary into extraordinary, and her creative touch brightened countless lives. As a loving mother to her daughters, Cassandra Hernandez, and Lindsay Salinas; and a doting grandmother, Kay adored her family fiercely. Her legacy will endure in the hearts of her loved ones who will carry forward the love and joy she so generously shared.

A great big sister and lifelong supporter of those she loved, Kay had a remarkable gift for nurturing relationships. She brought life and laughter into every room she entered and had an unmatched gift for cultivating plants, earning her a reputation as a green-thumbed gardener who brought beauty and vitality to her surroundings. Kay was a self proclaimed "Jesus Freak" and wore it loud and proud. She adored animals; they had a pull to her, as if they knew to come find her for support and love. One of her favorite pastimes was riding along the beach on horseback. Kay loved music of all kinds, and passed that love onto her children.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul Rusnak and Karen Powers.

Kay is survived by daughters, Cassandra Hernandez (Abram Garses), and Lindsay Salinas (Mark), her precious grandchildren, Blake and Abigail, and brothers, Jody Rusnak (Kris), and Paul Rusnak (Suzie).

A Public visitation will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2026 from 9:30am - 10:00am at Somerset Methodist Church with a Funeral Service to follow at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Bexar Cemetery in Somerset, Texas.

The family has requested that beach attire or Red, White, and Blue be worn in honor of Miss Kay, and please come with a memory to share.

In this time of remembrance, may we find solace in the beauty of her spirit and in the memories we hold dear. Kay Curbow will forever be remembered as a bright light in our lives-an artist, a nurturer, a loving soul-who now rides along the beach on her horse with the wind whipping through her hair and joyfully dancing in the stars.
