Richard J. Clute II, 60, of Lytle, Texas passed away unexpectedly on April 5, 2023, at his home. Services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Friday, May 26, 2023, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas with military honors.

Richard was born August 20, 1962, in Houston, Texas. Richard served four years in the United States Marine Corps' Landing Support Battalion. His tour took him to Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and Lebanon. After his honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps, he started a 20-year career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and retired as a Captain of Correctional Officers. Richard continued working at various jobs until his passing.

Richard spent his early years competing in horse shows then rodeos as he got older. Through his military career he competed in rodeos riding bulls and bareback horses and was a member of the Military Rodeo Cowboys Association. He changed his focus to team roping after years of wear and tear from the rougher events and competed in local events as well as United States Team Roping Championships and Professional Armed Forces Rodeo Association. He also coached several of his son's sports teams as well as coached a few teams even before he was a father. He enjoyed molding the kids with discipline and teaching them respect for the game and other players. Those who knew him knew he loved horses, onion rings, to tease you but most importantly he loved his son.

Richard is survived by his son, Cody Clute of Bulverde, TX; his sister, Shawn Clute of Rosharon, TX; brother, Jamie Clute of Williamson, SC; stepmother, Sheryle Clute of Williamson, SC; uncle, Curtis Clute of Fredericksburg, TX; his USMC brothers and Jean Clute his former wife and friend. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard J. Clute I, grandmother, Evelyn Clute and grandfather, Leroy Clute.
