Listen to Obituary

Roberto Longoria Chavera, 70, entered to rest on October 23, 2026 surrounded by his loving wife and his children. He was born on January 8, 1956 in Pearsall, Texas to Angel “Gelo” Chavera and Elisa Longoria Chavera.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Dora Valenzuela Chavera and his children, Robert Chavera, Jr. of San Antonio, Juan Chavera of Laredo, and Linda Chavera of Pearsall; Grandchildren: Robert III, Destiny, Alexis, Naomi, Memphis, Dustin, Ezabella, Lorena, John; Great-grandson: Aziel Moore; Siblings: Oscar Chavera (Ina), Roy Chavera (Oralia), and Anita Chavera (Jesse Martinez); along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Throughout his life, Robert showed what hard work and determination could accomplish. Coming from humble beginnings, he and his wife left their hometown and made a new life in Laredo so he could pursue a career in the oilfield. That decision began a journey that would span more than 40 years. Through years of hard work and dedication, Robert eventually became self-employed and built a successful career. His greatest reward was being able to provide a comfortable life for his family.

Robert was a firm man with a soft heart, always willing to help others when he could. He believed in doing what was right and lending a hand when someone needed it. He was also a strong supporter of our veterans and service members, always willing to give his time and effort whenever he was asked. He believed in supporting those who served our country and was proud to do his part. His willingness to help others and give of himself was just part of who he was.

Outside of work, Robert was an avid golfer who enjoyed spending time on the golf course. He also enjoyed fishing and took great pride in his lawn. He loved his St. Augustine grass and spent countless hours tending to it and making sure it was well cared for. He took pride in keeping his grass looking just right. But nothing meant more to him than his family. He loved his children, but if you asked him what his favorite part of life was, he would tell you it was being Grandpa.

His grandchildren held a special place in his heart. They brought him more joy than words could ever express. He treasured the time he spent with each of them and was proud of every one of them. Being their Grandpa was one of the greatest blessings of his life. In his final days, he would often say that he had the best grandchildren in the world. Those words said everything about the love he had for them. They will always know how much they meant to him and how proud he was to be their Grandpa.

Robert's life was filled with hard work, love for his family, and love for his community. We wish his journey could have continued for many more years, but the memories he leaves behind will stay with us forever. His legacy will live on through his children and grandchildren and in the love he gave them throughout his life. Though his journey has come to an end, his story will continue through the family he loved so much.
