Thomas Dale "Tommy" Smith, of Pearsall, Texas, passed away on August 13, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on February 1, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas, Tommy lived a life rooted in dedication to his work, love for his family, and a deep connection to the land he tended.
At home, Tommy found fulfillment in working on his place and spending time with those closest to him. He took pride in providing for and spending time with his family. His loyal dog Lost was always by his side---a constant companion on the place.
Tommy shared 47 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Debra. Together they built a life centered around family values and the simple joys of country living. He was a proud father to Chris Smith and Tiffany Halsell along with her husband Jacob, and a cherished grandfather to Grace, Grant, and Katelyn Halsell. He is also remembered by his sister Leanne Waligura and husband Joe, as well as his brother Steve Smith, and wife Mikki, and his brother-in-law, Sam Center.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, T.J. and Loraine Smith and his sister Wanda Center.
After retiring from his career in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Hondo, Texas, Tommy fully immersed himself in the life he loved of caring for his livestock. He dedicated his days to raising goats and cattle---work that brought him peace and purpose. He had an instinctive understanding of the land; he knew just when to plant his garden and took pride in growing fruits and vegetables for his family to enjoy.
Tommy's presence was a steady comfort to those who knew him. Known for his generosity and readiness to help anyone in need, he embodied the spirit of neighborly kindness. Whether offering a helping hand or sharing wisdom earned through years of experience, Tommy left an indelible mark on all who crossed his path.
In honor of Tommy's generous spirit and love for helping others, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Shriner's Children's Hospital or St. Jude's Hospital in lieu of flowers.
May you be free from suffering and reunite with your family in heaven. Until we meet again...
