Wanda Sue Stroud-Clary, age 83, of Somerset, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on July 11, 2026, in Devine, Texas. Wanda, called Maw Maw by her grandchildren and Maw by her children, was born on September 4, 1942, in Portia, Arkansas. The second of seven siblings, she spent much of her early life helping her parents, sharecroppers, pick cotton across Arkansas. She moved with her family in her youth to Corpus Christi, attending school in North Beach for a time before moving to San Antonio, where she attended and graduated from Harlandale High School.

She began working for HEB at the age of sixteen, where she later met her husband Fred Clary, a grocery stocker. The two were married on September 22, 1963, when he was 20, and she was 21. They lived and raised their family on the south side of San Antonio, later moving to Somerset in 2000, where she and Fred became members of Somerset Baptist Church.

Wanda loved to garden, and especially loved to grow and tend to flowers, of which her favorites were pansies, roses, and morning glories. Besides HEB, she worked for and loved the Alamo and all the history that went with it. A prolific writer, Wanda found a sense of ministry in writing letters to friends and family alike for every holiday, special occasion, or personal moment of celebration or grief. She also enjoyed spending time on vacation in the hill country and at the coast with her family, enjoying the sights and playing dominoes in the evenings. Most of all, she enjoyed cooking for and spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents Dana and Pauline Stroud, by her siblings Dale Stroud and Marian Sundquist, and her son John Clary.

She is survived by her husband of almost sixty-three years Fred Clary, her children Michael (Tara) Clary, Deborah Clary, and her daughter in law Kathleen (John) Clary, by her grandchildren Cara, John (Birdie), Chris (Maycie), Caitlynn (Alan), and Matthew (Bea), and by her siblings Russell Stroud, Tracy Lewis, Peggy Ivy, and David Stroud. She is also survived by her best friend since the early 1970s, Beverly (Vince) Link and their family. Wanda and Beverly met at Food City Grocery Store on Military Drive West in San Antonio, Texas, when they both worked there in the office as bookkeepers.

Wanda's viewing will be held on Thursday, July 16 at Primrose Funeral Services in Devine, Texas, beginning at 4:00 PM for family and 5:00-9:00 for friends. Her funeral will be held on Friday, July 17 at Somerset Baptist Church. There will be a short viewing at 11:00 AM for family and at 12:00 PM for friends, then the service will begin at 1:00 PM. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Bexar Cemetery on FM 2790 in Somerset, Texas.
